Hitachi Leeds

Lamb & Partners Ltd. Built Environment Consultancy were appointed by Hitachi Capital in July 2014, to design a new data centre and infrastructure rollout for their recently procured building, adjacent to an existing site in central Leeds.
The design consisted of an entirely new installation of data and communications racks in a new technical equipment room, together with power requirements, AC requirements, fire suppression, UPS power back up and emergency power separation.
The design incorporated infrastructure connectivity to the main office floors, which have been set out in the New Ways of Working styled benching and covers both comm’s and data connectivity.
Our duties extended beyond design of the Technical Equipment Room and their contents to managing the contractor’s interpretation of our requirements, quality management of the works on site and the building of the racks, along with all testing and commissioning. We then assisted the move migration and ensured that all work stations were proved functional by the Monday morning after the weekend moves (two primary phases).
This phase of the works being completed successfully in December 2014, Lamb & Partners Ltd. has been retained to deliver the design and installation of Phase 2, which sees the existing building refurbished in-situ, along with a new technical equipment room (TER) and connectivity to the newly installed building. Due to the building remaining occupied throughout, the new technical equipment room is being built elsewhere in the building to allow services to remain operational. With staff being migrated between buildings to create the ‘swing space’ to build in, some IT services are to be migrated temporarily to the TER in the adjacent building before being brought back to the new TER. This level of infrastructure requires detailed planning and coordination between consultants, contractors and staff and an on site presence whilst it takes place such that any unforeseen complications can be resolved as they develop.
Lamb & Partners Ltd. are grateful to Neustar and our partner Ian Swinglehurst for the introduction to Hitachi Capital, without whom this contract would not have been possible.
